The FIA will scrap a 90-car limit on the number of entries able to compete in WRC events for 2005, and leave the decision on the number of cars up to event organisers. Entry limits could be controlled, however, by how much of the safety and GPS-tracking equipment is available from WRC rights holders International Sports Communicators. In addition, though, privateer cars will no longer have to use FIA-mandated fuel and will be able to use normal pump fuel.

“If we want the privateers back, we have to remove the 90-car entry,” said an FIA spokesman. “We don’t want to keep them out, because that goes against the rules that we have worked to for the last 50 years. Why are we trying to turn our customers away?”
