Starting the weekend with the 7th fastest time in practice despite having troubles with the car after two laps, Marklund was up for a fight going into the first heat. Sitting in 3rd after the first corner, the young Swede was closely in pursuit of Jeanney and Walfridson, eventually passing Jeanney on the third lap and narrowly overtaking Walfridson on the last to win his round.
The second heat was another tight battle with a lot of contact, Marklund starting off in 3rd again, behind Rustad and Jeanney. A small scrap with Jeanney put Marklund into 2nd on lap two, taking a lot of determination to keep Jeanney behind, damaging the back bumper of his Volkswagen Polo R, but ultimately holding him there. The last lap was extremely tight between the first three cars but Marklund swiftly overtook Rustad on the very last corner of the last lap to take his second win of the day. Placing 7th in both heats one and two put Marklund in 4th place overall at the end of day one.
Moving into the second day, Marklund took the lead in his round of the third heat, holding back Jeanney and Leppihalme for the first lap. Then, as he took the joker on the second lap Rustad stole the front position and kept it for the remainder of the race. The third heat saw extremely fast times from many of the top drivers, Marklund sat in 6th in a time of 2:47:075 and put him in 4th overall.
The fourth and final heat was another fast race. Marklund played his joker on the first lap, putting him in third coming into the first bend, behind Holten and Jeanney. He then pushed himself into, and held onto second, with a controlled cut-in when Holten took his joker. Marklund finished with a fast enough time to put him 4th for the heat, 3rd in total for all four heats, propelling him to the next stage.
Starting off his semi-final behind Timerzyanov, Marklund stayed tight to the Russian driver for the first four laps, with Bakkerud chasing up the rear. Taking his joker on his fifth lap, still in second place, Marklund’s gearbox broke. Struggling to maintain his speed, Bakkerud and Hvall quickly took over. Crossing the finish line two seconds behind Hvall, Marklund closely missed out on another final.
”I’m super happy with how things have gone. We had the speed from the beginning and I was really looking forward to the semi-final, with the hope that I could get further this time. I had a bad start and Timur was rough on the inside, forcing me to go wide and I lost some speed. I definitely would have been third but my gearbox broke on the joker, leaving me with only first and second gear for the rest of the race. We’ve scored 17 points and are now 5th overall in the championship, Mr Consistency scores again!” joked Marklund, wrapping up his feelings from the weekend.
