As the FIA ERC round is held for the first time in Estonia, all the top drivers from Estonia are present in auto24 Rally Estonia, including WRC 2 Rally Poland winner Ott Tänak, Karl Kruuda and many others. They will have strong competition from regular FIA ERC drivers, like series leader Esapekka Lappi with Skoda Motorsport’s Skoda Fabia S2000.
Skoda Motorsport will start in auto24 Rally Estonia with two cars as Sepp Wiegand, sharing second place with equal points with Craig Breen in the championship after Ypres Rally, is also starting in Estonia. Skoda Motorsport has been very successful in IRC and FIA ERC. 2010-2012 they took both individual and manufactures trophy in IRC and last year Jan Kopecky was the first driver to win with Skoda Motorsport’s Skoda Fabia S2000 the renewed FIA ERC championship.
„Well, for sure it should be the most familiar surface for me, because its almost Finland. But its a long time since I´ve been driving in Finnish roads so I think it will take a while to get used to drive these kind of extremely fast roads again. I know that there will be very strong competition and against R5´s on fast roads the chances are not so high. Specially when there is the local hero Mr. Tänak and rest of the local guys. I´m sure that few of them will be fighting in top 3 places during the rally. I hope we can make a good result there and get some good points for the championship,” told FIA ERC series leader Lappi.
After the entries are closed total 63 ERC crews are in the entry list of auto24 Rally Estonia. In FIA European Historic Sporting Rally Championship 37 crews are in the entry list and Estonian Rally Championship held on Saturday adds another 69 crews to auto24 Rally Estonia.
