Heikkinen, 23, has never raced at the Circuit Jules Tacheny in Mettet so has prepared by watching videos and looking at photographs of the track in order to get a clearer idea of the challenge that awaits.
”The track in Mettet is new to me and I’ve only seen videos and pictures,” said the Marklund Motorsport supported by Volkswagen driver. ”It seems to be a nice track, built for rallycross.”
Despite showing plenty of pace during the opening five rounds of the inaugural World RX season, Heikkinen has often been out of luck. In the latest round in Sweden last weekend he missed out on a place in the final by two-tenths of a second to rival driver Petter Solberg following a close battle for position.
”We all know in the team that we have a good and proven winning car,” said Heikkinen. ”We have more work to do for the Belgium race and hopefully we’ll get some luck as well.”
In addition to his season-long team-mate Anton Marklund, Belgian driver François Duval will pilot a third Marklund-run Volkswagen Polo RX Supercar in Mettet, a prospect that excites Heikkinen. ”François has already won in Supercars and he’ll be a real contender for the victory on his home WRX event. And Anton will also be really fast.”
Heikkinen will start World RX of Belgium fourth in the drivers’ standings on 88 points.
