The Swedish squad has an official partnership with Volkswagen Motorsport and the organisation’s colours are proudly displayed on Topi’s #57 Polo RX Supercar.
World RX of Germany is round nine of the 12-event World Rallycross Championship season. And with a 38-point gap to current leader Petter Solberg to overcome, Flying Finn Heikkinen is aiming for a strong result at the Estering circuit, which is located close to the northern German city of Hamburg.
”The last race in France wasn’t what we expected and we lost valuable points to our competitors,” said Topi, 23. ”We need to improve as a team and individuals all the time. At this stage of the season risks need to be taken, but we have to be consistent and score points on a regular basis. It’s likely the championship will be decided in Argentina in the last race and I want to believe in that, if I’ve not secured the championship myself before then of course.”
Heikkinen claimed his maiden World RX victory in Mettet, Belgium in the summer. As with Estering, Topi had no previous knowledge of the Circuit Jules Tacheny and he hopes it will be a case of history repeating itself when the World RX circus descends on Buxtehude from September 20/21.
”I haven’t raced in Buxtehude before but we have tested there this year,” the 2013 Global RallyCross champion explained. ”Hopefully that will help us to find maximum speed from the very first practice session. The circuit itself is very technical, smaller and narrower than most of the tracks this season. It means that we will most likely see a lot of action and collisions in the races. The first corner is especially tight.”
He continued: ”Estering is a home race for Volkswagen and a lot of fans and people from Volkswagen are coming to see the race. Hopefully we can put on a good show for them.”
