– I made it straight to A-final on both days. Now my driving was good, like it should be. Pace was much better good than on the previous round, Pinomäki said.
On Sunday´s race Pinomäki was driving already on 4th place, but in the very last corner Yankee superstar Travis Pastrana crashed with him and he dropped down to 7th.
– This DNF was really a pity. Wheel came off, and unfortenately that was the end of that story, Pinomäki thought.
Real surprise came on Sunday´s race. In front of ERC-winners and local stars is was 19-year old Finnish rallycross rookie Toomas Heikkinen who took the 1st place.
– He drove absolutely well and deserved the victory. Really coolheaded performance. I am pretty sure, that we will hear even more from him in the future, Pinomäki said.
Heikkinen´s Saab 9-3 was prepared by well experienced Swedish drivinglegend Per Eklund. Heikkinen already won the Finnish Rallycross title with the same car.
– He has the potential. This youngster is really talented guy, Pinomäki excited.
US Championship was won by another Ford Fiesta -driver Tanner Foust. He won two out of four rounds. Pinomäki participated in three rounds. Next year there will be six races across the country and four stadiumraces.
– We have some ideas and plans what to do next year, but for sure this US-serie is one of most interesting. This first taste of US rallycross was good, and it left a very positive feeling, Pinomäki says.
