The X Games showcase extreme sports of all varieties, from skateboarding to super trucks, with full television coverage from ESPN adding to its global appeal.
Topi has been invited to appear in the rallycross and rally section, which has featured global megastars such Ken Block, Sebastien Loeb and Colin McRae. With a mixed diet of drifting, jumps, hairpins, asphalt, and gravel, the action is non-stop.
As usual, the 23-year-old Finn will be at the wheel of his brand new 600-horsepower Marklund Motorsport Volkswagen Polo RX Supercar, with which he is contesting this year’s inaugural FIA World Rallycross Championship.
As reigning Global Rallycross champion, with a winning record in the X Games as well, Topi will be focussed on just one result once he arrives in Austin.
”Of course we go there to try and win,” said the Finn. ”That’s what I always do, and there’s only one approach to take: flat-out. But I also know from personal experience just how tough the X Games can be! It’s a fantastic challenge that is really popular with spectators, so I’m really looking forward to getting over there.”
The X Games is being held for the first time in Austin at the Circuit of the Americas: the home of the United States Grand Prix. More than 200 athletes are expected to take part, including Topi’s team mate Anton Marklund. Other notable entries include American heroes Travis Pastrana and Tanner Foust, as well as former F1 driver Nelson Piquet Junior.
