It was in February that Volkswagen Motorsport revealed that Swedish Marklund Motorsport was to officially represent Volkswagen in the new World Championship series. Following a year competing in the European Championship and X-Games, the team now returns with all-new cars – 560 bhp Polo RX Supercars.

Driving for the team is Finnish Toomas ”Topi” Heikkinen, 2013 Global Rallycross Champion and Swedish Anton Marklund, 2012 European Champion in Touring Cars.
The new car was presented today during a press conference where the team also shared its plans for the future.

– I can hardly wait until it all starts within a short month. I haven’t competed since Trophy Andros, France in January. The season will be tough with respect to the competition but at the same time fun to follow for the fans. Well-known racing and rally profiles will fight for the title against young talents and, of course, there is also the battle between the manufacturers to beat each other. Our goal is to win the first Championship title, but it will surely be a challenge, says ”Topi” Heikkinen.
– I am really looking forward to the start of the season! It will be inspiring with a team colleague to learn from. Adding to that it feels good to know that the team will give us every opportunity to reach success, Anton Marklund says.
Team Manager Jan Marklund is also looking forward to the opening event in Montalegre, Portugal on May 3–4. In total, there are 12 races until the season is completed in Argentina during November. One of the races will be held on Swedish soil in Höljes, County of Värmland.
– The co-operation between Volkswagen Motorsport and Marklund Motorsport has made it possible to develop this car to a totally different level. We are happy for the support we have had from Volkswagen Motorsport in Germany as well as Volkswagen Sweden, he says and adds that the plan is to fight for the top three positions in every race and to win the first Championship Title.
