Grint (21), best known for playing Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter films, is a huge rallying fan partly due to the fact that his brother James is an aspiring driver.
Although perhaps more familiar with flying cars than rally cars himself, Grint was in and around the Cardiff Service Park to meet the thousands of fans who were in attendance for the climax of the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship season.
Earlier in the day he had been able to go out himself to the Welsh stages to watch the action unfold.
Rupert Grint said: “I have made the official start for a few rallying events before but never been to a round of the WRC. I absolutely loved every minute of it and I can see why my little brother is hooked! I don’t think I’d be as a brave as him and get behind the wheel but it was an inspiring experience. I have so much respect for the drivers and am still in shock at the speeds I witnessed out on the stages, whilst they looked so in control of the car at the same time.
“To come to such an important day of the season also made it extra special. It was a delight to meet the fans too and their passion and excitement for the Championship was there for everyone to see.”
Simon Long, ISC CEO, added: “We’re delighted that Rupert was able to accept our invitation and come and experience the WRC. We want to showcase our sport to the biggest audience possible and hopefully Rupert being here will attract some of his many followers and fans to take a closer look at our Championship.
“The attendance of celebrities from other fields shows the broad reach and appeal of the World Rally Championship whilst inspiring new fans to begin following the sport. It also provided added value to the experience for the Cardiff fans in the Service Park on the day. Perhaps one day we’ll see Rupert and the fans cheering on his brother in the WRC itself!”
